Director of Regulatory Affairs - Sports Nutrition

The successful candidate will have proven track-record providing regulatory guidance, analysis and leadership in the food and nutrition industry both in the US and internationally. You will have ability to implement and manage regulatory and compliance programs to support the needs of a growing organization in a rapidly changing business, product and regulatory landscape. You will be comfortable translating regulatory and scientific issues into broadly understandable concepts and effectively communicating these matters to a variety of audiences and constituents. This role will manage a team of 5-7 and will evaluate current/emerging laws, rules and regulations, interpretive & legal guidance, and information from regulatory experts to ensure that sports and nutrition products marketed to consumers worldwide meet required standards. 

Core responsibilities:

  • Ensure that all products and labels comply with relevant federal regulations and local requirements
  • Monitor, assess, and report upon the potential impact of new regulations and updated interpretations of existing legislation related to product formulation, labels, communication and advertising. Work with internal and external counsel to make determine and recommend company response
  • Assist product innovation team and legal counsel in identifying and addressing potential intellectual property issues regarding ingredient combinations and product naming (e.g., patents and trademarks)   
  • Provide practical, pragmatic guidance and recommendations on new product formulations, labels, and usage claims to legal and innovation teams to assure compliance with local and federal regulations
  • Represent the company and participate in industry-related regulatory committees on its behalf
  • Assist counsel in researching/responding to legal matters
  • Support international and contract manufacturing customers with documentation needed to register products in local markets or obtain listings with key customers   
  • Develop and supervisor regulatory compliance team and processes to support growing domestic and international needs and requirements
  • Communicate departmental objectives and plans
  • Efficiently manage and prioritize numerous requests from across the business to effectively support operations and company objectives

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: 

  • 7+ years of directly related regulatory experience in the food or dietary supplement industry
  • Comprehensive knowledge of the laws and regulations pertaining to the manufacture and sale of nutritional supplements for domestic and international markets.
  • In-depth knowledge of food & nutrition sciences; familiar with relevant international laws and regulations
  • Minimum 4-year science degree; MS or PhD strongly preferred  
  • Strong analytical skills and judgement, detail oriented, well organized, able to prioritize and delegate.
  • Effective and efficient in a fast-paced environment.- willing to “roll up their sleeves” as they build and lead a team
  • Superior interpersonal,communication and presentation skills.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office software
